None of us are strangers to the ups and downs of life. Of course, most of us seem to get more aquatinted with the downs. But what’s the constant, behind those ups and downs? Is there something deeper we can tap into, especially during times of stress, that will help us stay grounded and remain at peace with ourselves?
Behind everything we experience is the experiencer. That is, when you’re stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, or depressed, it’s you that’s behind it watching it all. You’re the one experiencing that stress, which is different than being the stress.
It‘s important to remember this while going through exciting and troubling times alike. The more you can experience life from the perspective of the watcher, the more harmonious your involvement with life will be.
Take any stressful time, for example. Do you tense your way through it and lose yourself in the negative energy, or do you recognize that there is a lot of negative energy around you, but you’re still behind it, watching?
Same energy, same you, but totally different outcomes. In the more common case where we lose ourselves in stress, we effectively give up our free will and let the chaotic energies around us take control and wind us up.
However, when we recognize that the energy is temporary, albeit uncomfortable, we can more skillfully manage our way through it, and come out better on the other end.
Here‘s to you getting through whatever difficult, or beautiful moment you‘re experiencing, with clarity, presence, and love at your core.
Live with substance! Gabe Orlowitz
