Spirituality In The Workplace

Your place of employment is an excellent place to exercise spiritual work. I'm talking to you, but I'm also talking to myself (as is the case with every one of my posts).

If you're not happy at work, or outside of work, ask yourself why. Why am I not okay?

You'll realize you're not okay because your thoughts are not okay. Your mind is constantly telling yourself that things are not okay. There's a mental dialogue going on all the time telling you that things aren't okay.

But remember, you are not your mind. You are the one noticing it, just like you notice the weather. As soon as you make this detachment, you'll feel slightly liberated from the incessant chatter going on inside.

Most people try to go to work to have it somehow distract or engage them to where they're not listening to all these problems in their head. But really, work should be a place we go to get rid of our problems, not to solve them. Work is a place you go to cleanse, to let go of the problem you have inside yourself.

Don't try to get things for yourself. Try to get rid of yourself - the self that thinks the whole world is about you.

When we're at work, we do this by giving.

If you don't like what you're doing, learn to give and let go of the part of you that doesn't like what you're doing.

Why? Because everything is spiritual and everything is fulfilling.

Say to yourself, "I am not going here to get something. I'm going here to give of myself, and in the process, let go of the part of me that can't deal with the little problems."

Like an intimate relationship, work is not about getting something for yourself, but rather about giving of yourself, and letting go the part of you that isn't letting you do that.

Every time you walk through a doorway, stop for a second, and remember you're sitting here on the planet spinning in the middle of absolutely nowhere opening a door. Bring yourself back to the present moment, and embrace the moment unfolding in front of you.

What matters isn't you. It's your ability to transcend yourself. Remember, your job is more important than your personal self that never shuts up. You don't want more money or a better job. All you want to do is better serve the unfolding of the universe.

If you use every single situation to transcend yourself, you will in fact get everything you wanted. No money or job title will ever give you what you really want underneath it all.

The purpose of your work, and your life, is to go beyond yourself.

Live with substance!
